Security Set Up Procedure
The Security Set Up Procedure describes how to maintain the security settings to implement security for the module. There are two levels of security available within the module. One is a simple form that only requires passwords for the specific programs you wish to protect. The second level of security is called system security and is a more stringent security system that restricts program access by operator number or user. System security requires that you group all programs into functions within security sets. You will create an operator for each person who will access the module and determine which function within the security set the operator is authorized to access. You can activate one or both levels of security.
Important:
There are two levels of security that you can use to ensure the integrity of your data:
Program-level passwords that restrict access by program password
Module-level security that restricts functions by operator number and operator password
Always keep a written or hard-copy list of the passwords in a secure place, in case the passwords are forgotten or inappropriately deleted.

1. Determine the programs within the module to be secured with a password.
2. Enter
the program password
during Program
Record Maintenance.
Note: The
Program password is a separate password from the operator password
and has a separate function. You
should maintain a unique password for each type of password.
3. Let the designated operators know the passwords for the programs they are authorized to access.

Follow these steps to set up security for the module:
1. Using the list of module Program Records (also known as .JUMP records), organize the programs into groups called security sets. For example, you can group all the programs within the Daily Work menu into a security set called "Daily Work".
2. To create each security set for the module use Security Set Description Maintenance and enter the following fields:
c. Program Record ID as the function description
3. Print the Operator Work Sheets that you can fill out for each operator indicating the programs they can access.
4. Assign the following security information for each program during Program Record Maintenance.
b. Security Set
d. Description for the Program Record
e. Program Record Restrictions, if applicable
5. Create the operator number and the operator password for security during Operator Signon Maintenance.
6. Assign the operator authorization for each function within each security set during Operator Signon Security Settings Maintenance or during Create Operator Security Settings Maintenance.
7. Print the Operator Security Set Report to proof and verify the security settings you have created.
8. Activate system security by setting the appropriate options during Security Parameters Maintenance.
