Field Description - Console Item Type

The Console Item Type is a category that identifies the type of file that appears on the Executive Console and the User Console.  For example, documents, spreadsheets, and databases have different Console Item Types.

Tip:  You can maintain the information about the following types of console items using the Console Item Wizards available in EMS and the application modules.

• Other:  A favorite executable program (.exe) that you can run.
  Example:  You can add the Microsoft Calculator (calc.exe) to the console.

• Crystal Report Viewer:  A favorite Crystal Report (*.rpt) that you can view in the console's Content View Panel.

• Crystal Report:  A favorite Crystal Report (*.rpt) that you can view and maintain using Crystal Reports.

• Microsoft Access:  A favorite database (*.mdb) that you can view and maintain using Microsoft Access.

• Microsoft Word:  A favorite word processing document (*.doc) that you can view and maintain using Microsoft Word.

• Microsoft Excel:  A favorite spreadsheet (*.xls) that you can view and maintain using Microsoft Excel.

• Image:  A favorite JPEG image (*.jpg) that you can view in the Content View Panel.

• Text:  A favorite text file (*.txt) that you can view in the Content View Panel.
  Tip:  You can use Notepad or WordPad to create text files.

• Web:  A favorite web page that you can view in the Content View Panel.

Tip:  You can maintain the information about the following console item types only from the application modules, using the Job Console.

• Report: A report, such as a daily journal, that runs within an NDS application module.  You can view the report in the Print View window.

• Process: A process, such as a daily post, that runs within an NDS application module.  You can view the results in the Print View window.

• Auto Notify View: A notification that is automatically sent to the console for a specific situation.  For example, you can flag certain wizards to notify you when data in a specific field, such as an account name, has been changed.  You can view the notification in the Print View window.
