The Charge Prior Authorization determines whether or not a referral with an Authorization Number is attached to a charge. To attach a referral authorization to the charge and to print an Authorization Number in box 23 of the HCFA claim form, set this field to Yes. To attach a referral to the charge and to print a referring provider number in box 17a of the HCFA claim form, set this field to No.

You can maintain Charge Prior Authorization during Charge Entry at the Commit Charges Window.
If this field is set to Yes, you must maintain an Authorization Number (during Patient Entry at the Referral Authorization Window) or Prior Approval Number (during Patient Entry at the Workers' Compensation Window).
If this field is set to Yes, and you maintain a referral authorization during Referral Authorization, INSight will update the referral's Remaining Visits.
If this field is set to No, and you want a provider number to print in box 17a of the HCFA claim form, you must maintain the Referral field during Charge Entry at the Batch Entry Window.
