The Number of Encounters is the number of face-to-face visits with the provider associated with the charge. Sometimes this field is used for rural providers whose payments are determined in part by the number of patients seen in a day.

This is an optional field that displays only if the file is defined during installation.
You are required to track the number of encounters for certain types of providers or practices.
You can maintain the Charge Entry Number of Encounters during Charge Entry at the Commit Charges Window.
Do not confuse the Number of Encounters with the Encounter Number printed on the superbill. They are separate fields with different meanings.
