  1. Click Payroll from the Menu Bar.

  2. Click Miscellaneous File Maintenance.

  3. Click Table FM.

  4. Click Numeric Tables.

  5. Click State Withholding Tax.
     
     Tip:  Or, use the keyboard shortcut:  [ALT] [p] [m] [n] [w].

  6. The tax table for your facility's State Code displays.
     Tip:  If your facility is not in Massachusetts, click 1 - Massachusetts in the drop-down list.

  Note:  The tax limits and rates depicted in the following table are only an example.  Actual tax withholding information is published annually.

  

   

• Creating a new state tax table, click More.

   

  Note:  You can not create any new state tax tables.  The necessary tables are created during the software installation and updates.  To maintain the tax tables, see the instructions for editing later in this topic.

   

• Editing the Massachusetts state tax table, click More.

   

  CAUTION:  To avoid losing data, you must save changed records.

  1. To display the record to be changed, simply open State Withholding Tax Table Maintenance - Massachusetts.  The record automatically displays.

  2. To position the pointer to the information that you want to change, press [TAB] or click the field using the mouse.

  3. Enter the data changes.

  4. To complete the edit process, click Save , or press [ENTER].

  Table ID	The program sets the Table ID to W/H 01. Tip:  Massachusetts maintenance is for a single table containing a single record.
  	To update the changed information, click Save or press [ENTER]. Keyboard shortcut:  [ALT + s]
  	CAUTION To avoid losing data, you must save changed records.
  	Search is not active for this program.
  	Retrieve is not required in this program.
  Title	Enter the Table Title, which is an abbreviated name for the table.  (up to 14 characters)
  Description	Enter the Table Description, which is the full name of the table.  (up to 79 characters)
  Base Allowance	Enter the Base Exemption Amount.  (6.2 numeric)
  Dependent Exemption	Enter the State Dependent Exemption amount.  (6.2 numeric)
  Tax Percent	Enter the State Tax Rate in whole numbers.  (6.2 numeric) IMPORTANT:  If the rate is 5.3%, enter 530.00.   Tax Calculation Example - Massachusetts Taxpayer: If a single person's annual gross wage is $20,000.00... Less Base Allowance for self = $2,850.00 Less Dependent Exemption for 2 children = $1,000.00 X 2 = $2,000.00 Taxable Income = $20,000.00 - $2,850.00 - $2,000.00 = $15,150.00 Annual State Tax Withholding Amount = Tax Percent 5.30% X Taxable Income $15,150.00 = $802.95 Notes: To determine the withholding amount for the paycheck, divide the annual withholding amount by the number of pay periods in the year. This example is meant to illustrate how the tax table fields are used.  Actual tax rates, limits, and calculations may vary from this example according to current state formulas.
  State Code	To display the tax table maintenance window for a different state, click the State Code in the drop-down list.  (predefined) Tip:  This field is inactive (dimmed) when you display a tax table that is not for your facility's state.  To display a tax table for a different state, first click Close to return to the original window for your state.  Then you can specify a different State Code.

   

• Deleting an existing state tax table, click More.

   

  Note:  To maintain data integrity, you can not delete any state tax tables.
